WHAT IS LIGHT?

This will be a short post. So light is something that helps us to see. We have not yet properly defined light.

Light is generally electromagnetic radiation. But what is this electromagnetic radiation? Electromagnetic radiation is generally a wave-energy that can travel through a vacuum. I will tell you about electromagnetic radiation in my next post.

If we want to know about light, we should know about the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum (Or the spectrum of light) contains the visible light, infrared, radio waves etc. You might be getting confused. But read till the end.

Light consists of photons, which travels in the form of a wave. You all might know that wave has a wavelength.

The wavelength decides the type of light that is emitted from an object. So the different wavelength of light is put in the electromagnetic spectrum like radio waves, ultraviolet radiation, visible light, gamma rays as shown below.

These all are light but of different wavelengths. I have only told you the basics of light. There is a lot of stuff to learn like how do photons get formed or emitted when electricity is passed through it, different colours etc.
